    The country name in English, 'JAMAICA', is inscribed along the upper edge. In the center is the coat of arms of Jamaica — an English heraldic shield with the Cross of St. George and five pineapples. Above the shield is a depiction of a crocodile on a log. Below the shield is a motto ribbon with the Latin inscription 'INDUS UTERQUE SERVIET UNI'. At the bottom is the inscription 'HALF PENNY', meaning 'half penny'.

    In the upper part, along the edge of the coin from left to right, is the inscription 'VICTORIA QUEEN', with the year of minting '1888' below. The inscriptions are separated by five-petaled rosettes. In the center is the left-facing profile of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem. The portrait field is framed by a dotted border.
