The central part depicts the emblem of the Republic of Guatemala: a Resplendent Quetzal sits on a scroll bearing the date of independence, the scroll is flanked by crossed rifles and sabers, with olive branches to the left and right. Along the left, top, and right rim is the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA'. Below is the year of minting '2000'. The rim is decorated with dot-like elements.
