    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards from it, with 12 stars at their ends.

    At the top, along the rim, are 12 five-pointed stars symbolizing the Eurozone countries. On the left, the issuing country's name in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. On the right, the Latin inscription 'SEDE VACANTE MMXIII' – 'The See is vacant 2013'. At the bottom are a cross, the personal mark of engraver Maria Carmela Colaneri – 'M.C.C. INC', and the artist Patrizio Daniele – 'P. DANIELE'. In the center is the coat of arms of the Apostolic Camerlengo – the symbol of the Holy See during the interregnum. On the ribbon is the motto of the Cardinal Camerlengo: 'FIDEM CUSTODIRE – CONCORDIAM SERVARE' – 'To keep the faith – to serve harmony'.
