    In the upper part, along the rim, the English inscription 'EAST AFRICA & UGANDA PROTECTORATES'. Below, the year of issue '1909', flanked on both sides by rosettes of dots. In the central part above the hole, the numerals '1/2', with crossed elephant tusks on the sides.

    Around the rim are decorative raised dots. In the left part, along the rim, English inscriptions: 'EDWARD VII' and 'KING & EMPEROR', separated by a British crown, translating to 'Edward VII King and Emperor'. In the central part below the round hole, the inscription 'HALF CENT'.
