The central part features a breached dam with an airplane flying above it: an episode from World War II codenamed 'Operation Chastise' - the air strike on dams in Germany on May 17, 1943. To the left above the dam is a two-line inscription in English: 'RAID ON THE DAMS'. In the background of the dam is an image of an award for airmen. Below it is a two-line inscription in English: 'DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL'. Along the upper edge arc is the name of the war in English: 'WORLD WAR II'. Along the lower edge arc is the inscription: '$1' - one dollar.
Obverse
The central part features the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia. To the left of it is the number '19', to the right '97' - the mintage year 1997. In the upper part, along the coin's edge arc, is the name of the country, Republic of Liberia, in English: 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. In the lower part, along the coin's edge arc and separated by dots, is an inscription in English: '1 DOLLAR' - one dollar. The coin's rim features decorative elements in the form of denticles.
