Reverse
In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is Arabic text: «بــــنــــكـ الجـــزائـــر», which translates to 'Bank of Algeria', flanked by two five-pointed stars. Below is the inscription «ديــــنـــارا» — 'dinars'. In the central part is the number 20.
Obverse
Around the edge of the coin is a decorative raised pattern in the form of rings. In the central part is an image of a lion's head. To its left is the year of minting: 1999 and 1420, corresponding to the Gregorian and Islamic calendars, respectively.
