In the central part, the numeral: 50, framed by beans and peanut branches. Below is the year of issue: 1984 and the mintmark of the Paris Mint - a cornucopia. Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in French: «UNION MONETAIRE OUEST-AFRICAINE» - West African Monetary Union.
Obverse
In the central part, a gold dust weight figure of the Akan-Ashanti type. Below it are the artists' initials of the Paris Mint: «RJ» - the initial of artist Raymond Joly, and a pentagon belonging to artist Yves Sampo. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right runs the text in French: «BANQUE CENTRALE ᴅᴇS ETATS ᴅᴇ L'AFRIQVE ᴅᴇ L'OUEST» - Central Bank of West African States.
