    In the central part, within a circle, a south-pointing chariot is depicted facing left, with the English text 'COMPASS CAR' above it. Above the shafts is a left-facing portrait, surrounded by the inscription 'π = 3.1415926 - 3.1415927'. Below the image is the inventor's name in Chinese characters and in English 'Tsu Chung Chih' (Zu Chongzhi). Along the edge of the coin are English inscriptions: at the top 'INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN WORLD', at the bottom in two lines '1 CROWN'.

    In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. In the truncation of the portrait are the initials of the British sculptor Raphael David Maklouf - 'RDM', below the truncation the Latin letters 'PM' - the mintmark of the Pobjoy Mint, Surrey, United Kingdom. Around the circumference along the rim are English inscriptions: on the left the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II', on the right the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN' and the year of issue '1995'. Along the rim are decorative raised denticles.
