    In the central part is a crown, surrounded by the heraldic shields of England (2), Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Between the shields are plant emblems: roses, a shamrock, a leek, and a thistle. On either side of the leek is the year of issue, 1960. The edge of the coin features decorative elements in the form of dentils.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is a left-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Below the truncation of the shoulder is the monogram 'M.G.' - the engraver's mark of Mary Gillick. Around the edge of the coin is the English inscription: 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.', which translates to 'Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God Queen, Defender of the Faith', and 'FIVE SHILLINGS'. The edge of the coin features decorative elements in the form of dentils.
