In the central part, a curved horizontal line depicts sea waves, dividing the side into two parts. The lower part features a color image of a Flame Angelfish facing left against a background of corals. The upper part shows a sailing ship on the waves facing right. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the English text "TROPICAL FISH OF FIJI" (Tropical Fish of Fiji).

In the center is the right profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. Along the edge of the coin is a decorative raised pattern of dots, flanked by English inscriptions: on the left, the monarch's name "ELIZABETH II" (Elizabeth II), on the right, the name of the island nation "FIJI" (Fiji) and the year of minting "2009".
