In the central part, two camels. Above them, a two-line inscription in French: "50 FRANCS". Below, near the rim, the mintmarks of the Paris Mint: a cornucopia and a dolphin. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right, the motto in French: "UNITE EGALITE PAIX" (Unity, Equality, Peace), separated by eight dots.
Obverse
In the central part, the coat of arms of Djibouti. Below it, the year of issue: 1983. Above and to the right along the rim, the country name in French: "REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI" (Republic of Djibouti).
