The motto 'LIBERTE . EGALITE . FRATERNITE' — translated from French as 'LIBERTY . EQUALITY . FRATERNITY' — is arranged along the upper edge. Below is the numeral 10, flanked on both sides by rosettes in the form of dots. In the center is the emblem of Haiti from the period of the American occupation. The motto on the ribbon 'L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE' translates as 'In unity there is strength'.

To the left and right along the rim are the French inscriptions 'REPUBLIQUE' and 'D'HAITI', which translate as 'Republic of Haiti'. The year of minting '1949' is below. In the center is a left-facing portrait of President Dumarsais Estimé.
