    In the central part, within an openwork circular frame, is a palm tree dividing the date of issue into two parts: '19' on the left and '39' on the right (1939). Along the upper edge arc is 'BRITISH WEST AFRICA'. At the bottom is 'TWO SHILLINGS' - 6 PENCE. The rim is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain wearing a crown. Along the edge arc of the coin runs the Latin inscription '∙GEORGIVS VI D∙ G∙ BRITT∙ OMN∙ REX F∙D∙ IND∙ IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL BRITAIN, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the monarch's truncation are the initials of the British medallist 'PM' - Percy Metcalfe. The coin's rim features decorative raised denticles.
