Reverse
In the central part of the reverse are relief drawings of the dome of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Above, horizontally, the name of the city in Spanish 'CUENCA' (Cuenca), below the year of its foundation '1557' and the year of the four hundred and fiftieth anniversary '2007'. Along the arc of the lower edge is an inscription in Spanish '450 AÑOS DE FUNDACIÓN' (450th Anniversary of Foundation).
Obverse
In the center is the coat of arms of Ecuador: an oval shield depicting the Chimborazo volcano, the Guayas River, a ship, above them the sun, to the right and left of which are astrological signs; on the shield stands a condor with outstretched wings; on both sides are two flags of Ecuador, between the flags on the left a laurel branch, on the right a palm leaf; below are fasces. Along the rim are inscriptions in Spanish: at the top the name of the country in Spanish 'REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR' (Republic of Ecuador), at the bottom the inscription 'UN SUCRE' (1 Sucre).
