    In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the English text 'EAST AFRICA'. The inscription is flanked on both sides by rosettes in the form of elongated diamonds. On the left is the inscription 'FIFTY CENTS'. On the right, 'HALF SHILLING'. At the bottom is the year of minting '1954'. In the central part, within a linear border, is a lion against an African landscape. Below it are the large numerals 50.
  • Obverse
    Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised denticles. Along the edge of the coin in the right part, bottom, and left is the English text QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND. In the central part is the right-facing profile of the Queen.
