    In the central part is Mahatma Gandhi, seated in the lotus position, half-turned to the left, against the backdrop of the Taj Mahal mausoleum. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the English text: "INDIAN INDEPENDENCE", translated as "Indian Independence", with the years 1947-1997 indicated to the left and right. Along the lower edge is the inscription: "$1" - one dollar.

    In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia. To the left of it is the number "19", to the right "97" - the year of mintage 1997. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the name of the country, Republic of Liberia, in English: "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA". In the lower part, along the edge of the coin, separated by dots, is the inscription in English: "1 DOLLAR" - one dollar. The edge of the coin features decorative elements in the form of denticles.
