    In the central part, a symbolic depiction of the Australian coat of arms. Against a background of flowering wattle, a kangaroo on the left and an emu on the right hold a heraldic six-part shield, framed by a border with fourteen crosses. Above the shield is a seven-pointed Commonwealth Star, resting on a wreath. The shield displays the emblems of the six states in two rows. Below the shield is a large numeral 50.

    In the left part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the English text 'ELIZABETH II'. To the right, the issuing country 'AUSTRALIA' and the year of minting '1987' are struck. In the central part is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara.
