    In the central part on the right are large numerals '10', below them a two-line inscription in English 'EURO / CENT' – meaning 'ten euro cents'. To the right of the '10' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. In the central part on the left are the outlines of the eurozone countries. Extending upwards and downwards from them are six vertical parallel lines, at the ends of which are 12 stars.

    On the left, the name of the issuing country in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. In the right part, along the edge of the coin's arc, are 12 five-pointed stars symbolizing the eurozone countries and the personal mark of engraver Guido Veroi – 'GV.UP Inc'. Below is the mint year 2004 and the mintmark of the Italian Mint, the letter 'R'. In the central part is a portrait of Pope John Paul II facing left.
