    Around the edge from left to right, the inscription "REPUBLICA . PORTUGUESA", which translates to "Portuguese Republic". Below, the year of issue "1970", flanked by two rosettes. In the central part, on a background of a widened cross, is the lesser coat of arms of Portugal: a heraldic shield on an armillary sphere. The shield features five escutcheons with bezants arranged in the form of a cross. The edges are bordered by a wide band with seven castles.
  • Obverse
    In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the name of the province of Angola in Portuguese: "ANGOLA". To the left and right are three rosettes with four petals each; the outer ones are small, the central one is large. Below is the inscription "10 $OO", meaning "ten escudos". In the central part is the coat of arms of the province: a heraldic shield on an armillary sphere, divided per pall, topped with five towers. Between the towers are four escutcheons with the Cross of the Order of Christ. In the left third of the shield is a fragment of the coat of arms of Portugal; in the right part are images of typical Angolan fauna: an African elephant and a zebra; at the bottom are waves.
