Reverse
In the central part of the reverse is a raised design of a six-pointed star, within which is the central hole. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right is the colony's name in English: 'NIGERIA - BRITISH WEST AFRICA'. Below is the year of issue, 1910. The rim features decorative elements in the form of denticles.
Obverse
In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is a depiction of the British Imperial Crown, with the inscription to the left and right: 'EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR'. The central hole is present. Circling the hole is the denomination inscription: in English on the left, top, and right: 'ONE PENNY', and below in vocalized Arabic: 'وَاحِد بَنِّي'. The rim features decorative raised denticles.
