Below - the year of accession to the throne of the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II in Indo-Arabic numerals: "١٢٩٣" - 1293 AH (Islamic calendar) or 1876 AD (Gregorian). Above - the numeral: "٥" - "5", meaning the 5th year of reign or 1880 AD. Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
