    At the top, the colony's name in English 'EAST AFRICA & UGANDA PROTECTORATES', at the bottom the year of issue '1918'. In the central part, the numeral 10 and an image of crossed elephant tusks.

    To the left near the rim, the monarch's name in Latin 'GEORGIVS V', at the top an image of the British crown, to the right the title 'REX ET IND:IMP:' ('King and Emperor of India'), at the bottom the inscription in English 'TEN CENTS'. Below the inscription is the mintmark of Kings Norton Metal, Birmingham 'KN'. In the central part, a hole framed by two decorative elements.
