In the central part, a dove is depicted facing left, perched on the tiller of a boat; stylized waves are shown below. To the right of the bird is the inscription '5 €' (5 Euro). Above the boat's gunwale is the year of minting '2006'. Along the upper edge of the coin is the country name 'Finland' in two languages: at the top in Finnish 'SUOMI', on the right in Swedish 'FINLAND'. Above the tiller handle is the Latin letter 'M' - the artist's mark of Pertti Kalervo Mäkinen.

In the center is a pine tree, dividing the inscription in Swedish '150 ÅR ÅLANDS DEMILITARISERING' (150 Years of the Demilitarization of the Åland Islands). To the right, under a pine branch, is the Latin letter 'M' - the artist's mark of Pertti Kalervo Mäkinen. At the top, among the tree branches, is a stylized sun.
