    Around the rim: English text BRITISH WEST AFRICA at the top, the year of minting '1947' at the bottom. In the central part, within a closed wreath, a two-line inscription '6 PENCE'. The wreath branches (at the bottom) are tied with a ribbon forming a bow. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain wearing a crown. Around the rim of the coin runs the Latin legend 'GEORGIVS VI D. G. BRITT. OMN. REX F. D. IND. IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL BRITAIN, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the truncation of the monarch's neck is the privy mark 'HP' of the British medallist Thomas Humphrey Paget. The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
