In the central part, within a smaller circle formed by dots, a palm tree is depicted against a sea background, with a rising sun to its left, and a three-masted sailing ship and a flying mail pigeon to its right. In the upper part, along the curve of the coin's edge, is the English text: 'ONE CENT'. Along the curve of the lower edge is the mint year 1896. The inscriptions are separated by two five-pointed stars. The coin's edge features decorative elements in the form of denticles.
Obverse
In the central part is a left-facing head of the goddess Liberty, with the letter 'H' below the truncation of her neck. To the left, top, and right along the rim is the country name Republic of Liberia in English: 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. In the lower part, along the curve of the coin's edge, is a five-pointed star. The coin's edge features decorative elements in the form of denticles.
