    In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the English text BRITISH WEST AFRICA. Below is the inscription 'ONE SHILLING'. In the central part, within a closed linear circle, is an image of a palm tree; beneath its crown, the year of minting '1942' is divided by the trunk.
  • Obverse
    Around the edge of the coin is a decorative raised pattern of denticles. In the left part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is a Latin inscription: ':GEORGIVS VI D. G. BRITT OMN REX F. D. ET IND. IMP.', which translates as 'George VI, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. In the central part is a left-facing profile portrait of the King.
