Reverse
In the central part, within an openwork circular frame, is a palm tree dividing the year of issue into two parts: '19' on the left and '47' on the right (1947). Below the palm tree is the mint mark: "KN" - Kings Norton Metal, Birmingham. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top - BRITISH WEST AFRICA, at the bottom - ONE SHILLING. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.
Obverse
In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain wearing a crown. Along the edge of the coin runs a Latin inscription: 'GEORGIVS VI D∙ G∙ BRITT∙ OMN∙ REX F∙ D∙IND∙IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL BRITAIN, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the monarch's neck truncation are the initials of the British medallist Percy Metcalfe - 'PM'. The coin's edge is decorated with raised decorative denticles.
