  • Reverse
    In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of a sawfish. To its right is the numeral: 5, and to its left the letter designation for the franc: 'F.'. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in French: at the top: 'BANQUE CENTRALE', at the bottom: 'ÉTATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST', which translates to: 'CENTRAL BANK' and 'STATES OF WEST AFRICA'.
  • Obverse
    At the top edge of the coin are depicted grape clusters on vine branches. At the bottom: '1976' - the year of minting. In the central part is a frontal depiction of a Grant's gazelle head. Surrounding it, at the bottom, left, and right, are ears of corn. At the bottom is the inscription: 'G.B.L. BAZOR' - the designer's mark, Lucien Georges Bazor.
