Reverse

In the central part of the reverse is a relief design depicting a child facing left, seated at a desk, holding a writing instrument in the right hand. Around the circumference along the rim at the top is a two-line inscription: "ESTUDAR APRENDER SEMPRE" (To study, to learn always).

Around the circumference along the rim: on the left, top, and right, the country name in Portuguese "REPÚBLICA DE CABO VERDE" (Republic of Cabo Verde), flanked on both sides by a five-pointed star; at the bottom, the year of minting "1977". In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic from the 1975-1992 period. Below it is the inscription "1$00" (1 escudo).
