    A six-pointed star is inscribed around the central hole. The legend 'BRITISH WEST AFRICA' runs along the upper edge from left to right. The mint year '1915' is at the bottom, flanked on each side by a dot. The rim is decorated with ornamental denticles.

    Central hole. Around it, the denomination 'ONE PENNY' in English above and in Arabic 'وَاحِدپَنّي' below. Above is the Crown, symbol of the British Empire. Along the rim, the Latin inscription 'George V King and Emperor of India' is split: the monarch's name 'GEORGIVS V' on the left and his title 'REX ET IND:IMP:' on the right, with a stylized ornament below each part. The edge is decorated with raised ornamental denticles.
