    In the central part, within a circle, is the numeral 5. Surrounding it are the nine coats of arms of the Federal States of Austria: Vienna, Burgenland, Upper Austria, Vorarlberg, Carinthia, Styria, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol. The arms are positioned with their base towards the center, forming a sunburst pattern. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in German: on the left, top, and right, the country name 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' (Republic of Austria); at the bottom, the inscription 'EURO'.

    On the left is a right-facing profile portrait of Franz Joseph Haydn, with a musical staff below the portrait. On the right – against a background of sheet music – are two violins depicted with their necks pointing upwards. Above them is the composer's name in German 'JOSEPH HAYDN' and his years of life '1732-1809'. To the right near the rim is the European Mint Program mark. At the bottom is the year of issue '2009'.
