In the central part is a compass, against which stand three members of the polar expedition next to a dog sled. Along the upper edge arc is the text: 'CANADA' - the country name in English and 'DOLLAR' - '1 dollar'. To the right near the rim is the monogram 'BR' - the engraver's mark of Bonnie Ross. Along the lower edge arc are the dates: 1913-2013.
Obverse
The inner part of the rim is shaped as a dodecagon (12-sided polygon). To the left and right along the edge is the text 'ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA'. Translation: 'Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen'. In the center is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (the fourth type), facing right. On the Queen's right shoulder is the monogram of the portrait's author.
