Reverse
In the central part is a breadfruit tree; at the base of the trunk, two alpacas are depicted lying down facing each other. Above the crown, nine five-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. Along the edge of the coin, text reads from left to right: the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Republic of Bolivia), at the bottom the Latin letters 'PAZ', the year of minting '1855', the inscription '4S' (4 sueldos), the engraver's mark 'F', with dots between the inscriptions. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.
Obverse
In the center is a left-facing portrait of Bolivia's first president, Simón Bolívar, wearing a laurel wreath. At the truncation is the person's name 'Bolivar'. To the left and right along the edge is text in Spanish: 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION∙' (Free by the Constitution). The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
