In the central part - an inscription in 3 lines in Ottoman Turkish: "ضرب في مصر", which translates to: "STRUCK IN EGYPT". Below - in Indo-Arabic numerals: "۱۲۷۷" - the year 1277 AH (Islamic calendar) or 1861 AD - the year of the accession of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz. Above - the numeral: "٤" - "4", meaning the 4th year of his reign or 1864 AD. Decorative raised denticles are arranged along the rim.
