    In the central part, within an openwork circular frame, is a palm tree dividing the year of issue into two parts: '19' on the left and '42' on the right (1942). Around the edge are inscriptions in English: at the top - BRITISH WEST AFRICA, at the bottom - TWO SHILLINGS. The rim is decorated with decorative denticles.

    In the central part is the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain wearing a crown. Around the edge runs a Latin legend: 'GEORGIVS VI D∙ G∙ BRITT∙ OMN∙ REX F∙ D∙ IND∙ IMP:', which translates to 'GEORGE VI BY THE GRACE OF GOD KING OF ALL THE BRITONS, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH EMPEROR OF INDIA'. Below the monarch's neck truncation are the initials of the British medallist Percy Metcalfe - 'PM'. The rim features decorative raised denticles.
