In the central part, a Ferruginous Hawk is depicted in flight to the right, its wings shown in a downstroke, legs extended forward to grasp prey. To the right of the image, the mint year '2014' is placed horizontally; to the left, the Latin letters 'TT' – the artist's mark of Trevor Tennant – are in its talons. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top, the country name 'CANADA', and at the bottom, the word 'DOLLAR'.
Obverse
Centered is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. In the truncation of the portrait are the Latin letters 'SB' – the artist's mark of Susanna Blunt. To the right and left of the portrait, the Latin inscription is split into two parts: on the right – 'ELIZABETH II', on the left – 'D∙ G∙ REGINA' (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen). A decorative circle of raised dots runs along the rim.
