    The central part depicts a bird – a Whooping Crane – standing on grass, facing left. Below the image, the species name is inscribed in a semicircle in Latin: 'Grus americana'. To the right is the artist's mark of Jean-Luc Grondin, the Latin letters 'GJL'. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the bottom, the country name 'CANADA'; to the right, the inscription '50 CENTS' and the year of issue '1995'.
  • Obverse
    The center features a right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown and a necklace. In the truncation of the portrait are the Latin letters 'DH' – the mark of the artist Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Along the rim, the inscription is split into two parts: to the right and left, the Latin legend 'ELIZABETH II D∙G∙ REGINA' (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen). The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots.
