In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, the English text 'EAST AFRICA & UGANDA PROTECTORATES'. Below, the mint year '1908', flanked on both sides by raised dots. In the central part above the hole, the numeral 1, flanked by crossed tusks.
Obverse
Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised denticles. To the left and right along the rim are English inscriptions: 'EDWARD VII' and 'KING & EMPEROR', separated at the top by a British crown. In the central part below the round hole, the inscription ONE CENT.
