The surface is divided by a semicircle into two unequal parts: the lower part symbolizes the Earth, the upper part – the sky. The lower part depicts the shadow of a glider. At the lower left near the rim: 'CANADA' – the country name in English. On the Earth against the backdrop of the sky and a setting sun, a boy stands on one leg with his arms outstretched. To his left, the date 1909-2009 is inscribed in two lines. In the sky, following an arc as if flying under the child's raised foot, are two airplanes, with an image of an airship below them. At the right rim on the border between earth and sky is the mark: 'JB' – the monogram of engraver Jason Bouwman. At the upper left along the rim is the inscription: 'DOLLAR' – '1 dollar'.
  • Obverse
To the left and right along the edge is the text 'ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA'. Translation: 'Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen'. In the center is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (the so-called fourth type), facing right. On the Queen's right shoulder is the monogram of the portrait's author. Below the portrait is the monogram of designer Susanna Blunt.
