Reverse The central part features a left-facing profile portrait of Lempira, a chieftain of the Lenca people. An inscription in Spanish runs along the upper edge from left to right: "20 CENTAVOS DE LEMPIRA", which translates to "20 CENTAVOS OF LEMPIRA". The edge of the coin is decorated with dentils.
Obverse The central part depicts the coat of arms of Honduras. The shield bears a Spanish inscription: "REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS, LIBRE, SOBERANA E INDEPENDIENTE. 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821", which translates to: "REPUBLIC OF HONDURAS, FREE, SOVEREIGN AND INDEPENDENT. SEPTEMBER 15, 1821". Along the left, top, and right rim is the country name: "REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS" ("REPUBLIC OF HONDURAS"), with the year of issue, 1991, at the bottom. The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dentils.
