    In the central part, an inscription in three lines: 'MACUTAS 8' - 8 macutas, surrounded by three four-petaled flowers of two types (two and one in quantity) and a laurel wreath. To the right, bottom, and left, an inscription in Portuguese: 'AFRICA.PORTUGUEZA', translating to 'Portuguese Africa'. At the top along the rim, the mint year 1796, separated from the inscription by two four-petaled flowers with dots on the sides. Decorative raised dots along the coin's edge.

    In the central part, the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal. To the right, bottom, and left along the edge, text in Latin: 'MARIA.I.D.G.REGINA.PORT.ET.D.GUINEÆ', the titles of Queen Maria I of Portugal. Decorative raised denticles along the coin's edge.
