Below, near the rim, the Latin letter 'A'. The edge of the coin features patterns of ropework and raised dots.

    In the center, the coat of arms of the Austrian Empire: a double-headed eagle with wings spread, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In the eagle's right talon, a sword and scepter; in the left, an orb. On its chest, the familial heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Along the upper rim, an inscription in German: 'K∙K∙OESTERREICHISCHE SCHEIDEMÜNZE∙' (Imperial Royal Austrian Subsidiary Coin). The edge of the coin features patterns of ropework and dots.
