    The central part features the coat of arms of Ecuador: an oval shield depicting the Chimborazo volcano, the Guayas River, a ship, above them the sun flanked by astrological signs; atop the shield stands a condor with outstretched wings; on either side are two flags of Ecuador, between the flags a laurel branch on the left and a palm leaf on the right; below are fasces. Surrounding the arms are inscriptions in Spanish: 'G.1.250' (1.25 grams), '1/2 D. DE SUCRE' (1/2 part of sucre), metal fineness '0.9', the mintmaster's initials 'J.F.', and below the mint mark 'LIMA'. Below the fasces on the flags are the Latin letters 'JR'. Along the rim are decorative dot elements.

    The central part features the left-facing profile of the Grand Marshal of Peru, Antonio José Francisco de Sucre y Alcalá. Along the rim are inscriptions: on the left, top, and right the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR' (Republic of Ecuador), at the bottom - the year of issue '1897'. The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots.
