In the upper part, along the curve of the coin's edge, the Latin text 'VINDOBONA' (Vindobona). The coin's edge features a pattern of dots.

    On the left, an emperor is depicted on horseback facing right, his right arm extended forward, with a guard behind him. To the left, a Roman soldier hands a scroll to the emperor. A military camp is in the background. Below, on the cobblestones, the year of issue '2010' and the artist Thomas Pesendorfer's mark 'TP'. Above the horse's head, the name of the ancient settlement on the territory of present-day Vienna in Latin: 'VINDOBONA' (Vindobona). Along the rim, in German, at the top and right, the country name 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' (Republic of Austria); at the bottom, flanked by a dot on each side, the inscription '20 EURO' (20 Euro); on the left, the name and title of Emperor Marcus Aurelius 'KAISER MARK AUREL'.
