The Australian coat of arms is depicted against a background of feathers: a kangaroo and an emu supporting a shield, above which is a torse surmounted by the Commonwealth Star. Below the coat of arms is the numeral 50, and beneath it the initials of the artist Stuart Devlin – 'SD'.
Obverse
In the central part is a right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. Along the rim are inscriptions in English: on the left the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II', on the right the name of the dominion - 'AUSTRALIA' and the year of minting '1985'. In the neck truncation are the initials of the British sculptor Raphael David Maklouf - 'RDM'.
