    In the central part is a radiant star. To its right and left, three stars are arranged in a row on each side. At the base is the mint year '1887', flanked by the Latin letters 'LW' - the initials of the Belgian medallist Leopold Wiener. In the upper part, along the curve of the coin's edge, is the text 'five centimes' in French - '5 Ces', with two dots under the letters 'es'. Along the curve of the coin's edge are decorative elements in the form of denticles.

    In the central part is a hole, around which five monograms of Leopold II form a five-pointed star. The monogram consists of a crowned Latin letter 'L', mirrored to the left. Along the curve of the coin's edge is the text 'LEOPOLD II KING OF THE BELGIANS SOVEREIGN OF THE INDEPENDENT STATE OF THE CONGO' in French: 'LEOPOLD II ROI DES BELGES SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO'. Around the edge of the coin and the legend are decorative raised dots.
