    On either side of the hole, wheat ears. On the sides, the inscription '1/2 Cent' (1/2 Centime) split into two parts. At the top, along the rim, the colony's name in two lines in French 'INDOCHINE FRANÇAISE' (French Indochina). At the bottom, the mint year '1939', flanked on the left by a cornucopia – the mint mark of the French Mint, and on the right by a wing – the privy mark of the mint director Lucien Bazor. A beaded pattern runs along the edge of the coin.

    In the center, a hole. To its left, the Latin letter 'R', to its right 'F' – the abbreviation for 'République Française' (French Republic). Above, a Phrygian cap (facing left). Along the rim, a pattern resembling a closed wheat ear, with oak branches running alongside. At the bottom, the designer's mark of Edmond-Emile Lindauer – 'EmLindauer'.
