Against a background of ships, the left-facing profile of Marianne wearing a winged Phrygian cap is depicted. Below the ships is the mark of the Chief Engraver Lucien Georges Bazor: 'L.Bazor' on the left and 'G.B.' on the right. To the right and left along the rim is the country name 'French Republic French Union' in French: 'REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE UNION FRANCAISE'. Below is the year of issue '1948', flanked by a cornucopia and a wing.
