    In the central part, a pair of Atlantic puffins is depicted on rocks. The central bird is shown facing right with wings spread, the bird on the right is shown facing forward. On the rock to the right is the artist's mark of Jean-Luc Grondin - the Latin letters 'GJL'. Below the image, the species name in Latin 'Fratercula arctica' is inscribed in a semicircle. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the bottom the country name 'CANADA', on the right the inscription '50 CENTS' and the year of issue '1995'.

    In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown and a necklace. In the truncation of the portrait are the Latin letters 'DH' - the mark of the artist Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Along the rim are inscriptions: to the right and left, the Latin inscription 'ELIZABETH II D∙G∙ REGINA' (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen) is split into two parts. The edge of the coin features decorative raised dots.
