In the central part, a bearded vulture (lammergeier), a bird of the hawk family, is depicted standing on a cliff, facing right with its head turned. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in Amharic: on the left '፲ ብር' (10 Birr), at the top the year of minting '፲፱፻፸' (1970).
Obverse
Depicts the coat of arms of Socialist Ethiopia. It consists of: in the center a radiant gear, with a plow depicted against its background; below, a shield in front of which a lion faces right, behind it crossed sword and spear; from the shield, laurel and palm branches extend left and right along the rim. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the country name in two lines in Amharic: 'ኅብረተሰብአዊት ኢትዮጵያ'.
